Environmental historians seek an understanding of the range of human interactions with the physical environment in the past. The field has been around officially since the organization of the American Society for Environmental History in the early 1970s. (ASEH remains a support of the list, but H-Environment is independent of the organization.) However, historians have been researching interactions between humans and the environment since early times."
