Using Search@UW to find materials at UWM and beyond

Search@UW that you see on the main library website searches ... *all* of UW. To find music materials that UWM owns, start at the UWM Music Library website. This widget will get you started, but look below for more information.

Use Search@UW to find resources in the Music Library.

To use Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT) within search phrases, you must enter them in uppercase letters.

Searching the Catalog can be a bit daunting. If you use the search box on the front of the Libraries' website, called Search@UW, you will get results from ALL of the UW campuses. In order to limit to what we have physically, you want to go the search page itself.

So first Click on the 'go' button

and you will see this

To limit to just what UWM owns use the dropdown

Subject Headings are assigned to each item in the library to help describe what it is like in its entirety. So books (or recordings or scores) will often have only one or two subject headings, but these headings are linked together and once you find one item that is exactly what you want, you can click the Subject Heading and the catalog will bring you back a list of more items with the same topic.

 Sample Subject Headings

Books about a person: Graham, Martha

Books about a class of people: dancers

Books about a topic: Dance -- Bibliography

Periodicals about Dance: Dance -- Periodicals

To limit further, you can use the Advanced Search

And then select your parameters

You can set your search type

and tell the system how you want it to search and don't forget about the other options

You can limit in other ways too... For example, if your results are bringing back a lot of materials in languages that you don't read, you can limit the search to only English, or to English and whatever language you can read.

And also by the format that you're looking for - Need a Score? or a Recording? That can be done too

To sign in to your account so that you can renew materials or make requests from other UW libraries, look in the upper right corner for the 'Sign in' or 'My Account' links.

Click on Guest and it will prompt you to sign in

You'll see this and login with your ePantherID/PW

and you'll see the, by now, familiar screen

And now I am logged in

To see what you have checked out, any fines you have, requests you've made from other campuses, etc. Click on My Account
