Strategy 2: Find Primary Sources in Books

Instructions

  1. Open Search@UW
  2. Click on the option for "Advanced Search" to the right of the search bar
  3. In the top line/field of the Advanced search screen,
    1. Set the "Any Field" drop-down menu to Subject
    2. Type the search term sources in the space provided
  4. In the second line/field of the Advanced Search screen
    1. Do not set the "Any Field" drop down
    2. Type a search term that describes the topic of your research

Searching the web for primary sources

Google and other search engines can be a powerful tool for searching for primary sources. There are countless digital collections and library websites with primary sources out there; to find them you'll need to know how to common keywords that describe primary sources and strong web navigation skills.
