Tips for Searching in Languages other than English

  • Search topic using terms in the language of study or English
  • Use the Language filter to select the preferred language to retrieve results and if necessary exclude English or other languages from the results. In some databases, you may have to used the "Advanced Search" option to select the language (i.e. in JSTOR)
  • Titles and abstracts may be in English even if the article is written in another language
  • Confirm that the work is in the language of study, look for "Language" or "Language of publication" under "Details" in Search@UW and/or database filter
  • Consult specific language LibGuide pages for specific Spanish and French resources
