Library Privileges for Community Users

Community users are welcome to use the UWM at Waukesha Library. While not an exhaustive list, here are some of the more common things community can do here:

  • Computer use - there is one (ADA-accessible) computer workstation that community members are welcome to use.
  • Printing - Community patrons use the same system (Wepa) that UWM students use. Check with Library staff or consult the UWM Wepa website.
  • Wifi access - A guest Wifi account - UWMVisitor - is available for the public to use. Check with Library staff at the Information Desk for current password.
  • Database use - nearly all of the UWM Libraries' 400 databases can be accessed by community members on-site. This includes in-library access to full-text articles, e-books, streaming media, and more. Please note that our licensing agreements restrict off-campus use to those with a current affiliation with UWM - student, faculty, staff, or sponsored users.
  • Borrowing books - Community users wishing to check out books and other materials from any of the UWM Libraries are encouraged to look into becoming a UWM Libraries Community Borrower. Library Special Permit Cards are available (at no charge) for K-12 teachers in Wisconsin. Library staff can provide additional information about either of these programs.
  • High school classes - the Library provides instructional support for high school classes and students in Waukesha County. We provide personalized research sessions for AP classes, Pre-College programs, and other classes looking to access college-level research materials and help with their use. Requests for course research sessions can be submitted at https://uwm.edu/libraries/forms/instruction/.
