MUSIC 212: History of Western Music 2

History of Music 2

Writing about music history requires you to combine information from multiple kinds of sources: you'll need to draw information from scores and recordings, combine it with historical information and analysis from books and articles, and, often, integrate your own informed analysis or interpretation.
So, you'll have to use a number of different approaches to finding sources for your paper. The pages on this guide will help you locate scores, recordings, books and articles, with an emphasis on items available online for the Spring 2020 semester.
You can also use the research consultation request form to schedule a one-on-one or small group meeting with me, the music librarian!

Access during partial closure

During the 2020-2021 academic year, only the Learning Commons section of the library will be open. You'll be able to request materials online or at the circulation desk, and they will be collected and brought to the desk for you. You can also continue to request articles, chapters, or sections of scores to be scanned and delivered to you electronically, by using the Interlibrary Loan form. If you have trouble figuring out how to access material you need, please use Ask a Librarian or email the Music & Performing Arts Librarian

To request materials, find the item in Search@UW and use the "Local Request" button, as demonstrated in the video below. When your materials are ready for pick-up, you'll receive an email. Then you can pick the materials up at the library's main circulation desk.
