Welcome Girls Rock Campers and Grown-Ups!
The Golda Meir Library at UWM includes tens of thousands of books about music, scores, and recordings, as well as children's books and study spaces (and a coffee shop!). The library is open to the public, so you are welcome to come in whenever we're open to find materials, get a coffee, or just pass the time in a welcoming space.
Community Members can also purchase a Community Borrowing Card to check out materials.
As the Music and Performing Arts Librarian, I (Anna) am always happy to help you locate materials or answer questions about the library. You can contact me at schmidag@uwm.edu.
While everyone is welcome in the UWM Library, the Milwaukee County Public Library system also gives you lots of access to books, music, and equipment. Try these searches to get started:
Note that the best ways to search for books for kids is to either use the "Audience" filter in the Milwaukee County catalog, or add "juvenile" to your search. "Juvenile" is the library term for young readers, and the library catalog isn't good at looking for similar words so adding "kids" or "children" to your search won't give you as many results.
Here's the playlist of videos I used in the workshop, plus a few extras I thought about including but didn't have time for.
Libraries like the UWM Library and your public library are full of amazing resources for musicians! To find some example books and items that may be interesting, it's helpful to start by thinking about what your questions are. The items below are just examples; we have SO many more books and other materials in each of these areas.
