Urban Studies Research Resources

A guide to the wide variety of research resources and services available through the UWM Libraries for Urban Studies research.

CQ Researcher(for background)

In addition to your course readings and discussions, other background sources can help you learn more about a topic you are exploring. Try out this tool called CQ Researcher:

  • Contains in-depth reports on political and/or social issues.
  • Is about the length of a news magazine, but it only covers one topic in-depth
  • Is useful for getting a very quick, brief snapshot of the history of an issue and ideas for further exploration
  • Has an excellent bibliography section for some “hand-picked” links to more information

Take a look at Urban Planning, Regional Planning and Urbanization, or search your own research topic by keyword.

Reference Universe

Search within more than 10,100 reference titles in the UWM Libraries and more than 50,000 reference works overall.  The [REF] reference collection in the Learning Commons (south) is a only small portion of the reference materials available.  Try Reference Universe to see what hidden reference gems you might uncover!

Need more?  Expand your search to identify reference materials at other libraries.  Request through UW System Search or Interlibrary Loan (a quick option if only selected chapters or pages are needed).
