Overview:

In 4 small groups, you'll respond to different prompts for brainstorming keywords and subtopics related to The Reformation. You'll have a few minutes to google, gather, and list terms for each prompt, brainstorming prompts. When time is up, your group will move on to the next prompt and repeat the process (Googling, gathering, and listing)--adding to the responses from the previous round. There are 3 rounds of brainstorming. In the 4th (last) round, your group will organize the terms listed for the prompt and prepare to summarize it for the class.

Round 1: Brainstorming
  • Open the Activity Google Doc
  • Start with the prompt that matches your group number: Group 1--> Prompt 1, Group 2--> Prompt 2, Group 3--> Prompt 3, Group 4 starts with Prompt 4.
  • List any and all words or phrases related to the prompt. There are no wrong ideas in brainstorming!
Round 2: Brainstorming
  • Move on to the next prompt in numerical order: Group 1--> Prompt 2, Group 2-->Prompt 3, Group 3--> Prompt 4, and Group 4 moves on to Prompt 1
  • Add to the list of terms started by the last group in the previous round.
  • Google and Browse Wikipedia to find additional terms
Round 3: Brainstorming
  • Move on to the next prompt in numerical order: Group 1--> Prompt 3, Group 2-->Prompt 4, Group 3--> Prompt 1, and Group 4 moves on to Prompt 2
  • Add to the list of terms started by the last group in the previous round.
  • Google and Browse Wikipedia to find additional terms
Round 4: Organize the Keywords
  • Move on to the next prompt in numerical order: Group 1--> Prompt 4, Group 2-->Prompt 1, Group 3--> Prompt 2, and Group 4 ends on  Prompt 3
  • Look at the list of terms already brainstormed: sort the terms into 3 categories:
    • Synonyms and Like Terms-closely related terms, different spellings of the same name/term, terms with identical meanings
    • Narrow Terms- terms that are very specific
    • Broad Terms- Terms that are general/less specific
  • Prepare to present a few terms from each category to the class.
Class discussion:
  • A spokesperson from each small group presents the brainstorm results for the last prompt
