Searching Web of Science
- Basic Search: use for topic searches. Use the asterisk symbol to truncate search terms (e.g. genet* will return sources that have the words genetic or genetics or genetically).
- Cited Reference Search: search by author, journal their article was published in, and date of publication. Users are strongly encouraged to use the “Select from index” function, because as you’ll see, as scholars do not cite their sources in exactly the same way.
- Advanced search: search by document type or by multiple fields (e.g. OG=University of Wisconsin Milwaukee AND CI=West Bend)
Advanced Features - Web of Science
Sign up: enables users to save searches to set up an alert to have search run against the database every day/week/month.
Structure Search (requires sign up): search by compound name, biological activity and/or molecular weight, or reaction condition.
