What is a Citation Manager?

Citation Management Tools are designed to help the research workflow.

  • You can use them however you feel suitable, but largely they are designed to help you keep track of articles, books, websites, and other resources for your work.
  • you can collect the records, pdfs, and citations as you conduct your research
  • Most have the ability to upload full-text PDFs
  • Many have the ability to annotate those citations
  • You can create bibliographies from them
  • You can also use plug-ins to insert citations into text as you write

Citation Managers

Zotero is an open source, freely available citation management tool that anyone has access to.
