Fall into Research 2022

Advancing Open Scholarship Recording

Headshot of Greg TananbaumGreg Tananbaum is the director of the Open Research Funders Group.  Additionally, he serves as Secretariat to the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) Roundtable on Aligning Incentives for Open Scholarship, and its liaison to the Higher Education Leadership Initiative for Open Scholarship (HELIOS), a partnership of 80+ colleges and universities committed to collective action to advance open scholarship.

The UWM Libraries and the Office of Research invite you to a discussion about Open Scholarship, what it is, and what applying principles of openness could mean for UWM and for the research enterprise as a whole. Greg Tananbaum, Director of the Open Research Funders Group and a member of the Higher Education Leadership Initiative for Open Scholarship core team, will join us to discuss the implications of providing greater access to the scholarly process and outputs. If we treat research as a public good, rather than a private commodity, how can that benefit knowledge sharing, public awareness of research outcomes, and global participation in the research process? And how can universities enable more open and transparent research through policy, rewards, and support?

Light refreshments are offered at 1:30 PM. The program starts at 2:00 PM.

If you have questions about the event, please contact Ann Hanlon (hanlon@uwm.edu).
