Renewing Media Items

DVD, VHS and audiobook titles cannot be renewed online. To renew these items, please call our office at (414) 229-4673, email us at libmedia@uwm.edu, or stop by our Media & Reserve service counter in the lower level of the West Wing.

Media Library Collection General Information

The Media Library Collection consists of over 11,000 VHS, DVD, and audiobook titles and over 2,200 CD-ROM titles which cover a wealth of disciplines. Up to four individual titles can be checked out at any given time to one card holder.   UWM Students, Faculty, & Staff can check items out for up to seven days with their valid UWM ID.  Non-UWM patrons must be current members of the Friends of the Golda Meir Library group and may view titles in the Media Library viewing carrels with their valid Friends ID card.

How to Hold a Media Title for Pick-Up

To hold, or reserve, a media title for check out date in the future, please use our
Media and Reserve Library Video Order Form. This form allows students and faculty to request media items be pulled and held at the Media & Reserve Service Counter for pick up.

Overdue Fines

Borrowers of all UWM Media titles will be charged at the rate of $1.00 per day, per item, for each day overdue.

Lost or Damaged Material

When a Media title is 30 days overdue it is automatically declared Lost. A lost or damaged title will be billed at replacement cost plus a $15 lost item processing fee. When an item which has been declared Lost is returned the patron will be charged the corresponding overdue fine at a maximum of $100.

Viewing Facilities

The Media Library has viewing carrels available to UWM faculty, staff and students with their valid UWM ID. Non-UWM patrons must be current Friends of the Golda Meir Library and must present their valid Friends ID card to use the carrels.

The carrels are not reservable and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Viewing equipment within the carrels is available to view a wide variety of media formats including: VHS videotape, DVD, International DVD, Blu-ray, and audiobooks on CD. The Media viewing carrels are open during regular Library hours.

The viewing carrels and equipment are for educational use only. Viewing or displaying inappropriate material is prohibited.

Purchasing Materials

The library does not have sufficient funds to purchase all requests; therefore, purchases are not guaranteed.

UWM faculty, staff, and students are able to make purchase recommendations for the Media Library via the UWM Libraries purchase recommendation form
