  • Search for books about the author or illustrator by selecting the Subject Heading (Keyword) option.

Something About the Author (SATA): (CCM Ref PN451 .S6)

Browse through these volumes to locate material about authors and illustrators.  Entries contain personal information, career histories, listings of works and awards, examples of illustrations, review sources, and a works cited.  To research a specific individual, choose the most recent volume with an index. One of the most popular reference sources in the Curriculum Library.

Children's Book Illustration and Design, 2 vols. (CCM Ref 741.64 C536)

Features over 100 contemporary picture book illustrators who have, in some way, changed the face of children's picture books.  Entries include a brief career history, samples of work, and the illustration media used. 

Children's Literature Review (CLR): (CCM Ref PN 1009 .A1 C5139)

Each volume of this continuous series profiles authors and illustrators of books for children and young adults.  Comprehensive entries include information regarding awards and prizes.  Also included are biographical facts relating to the artist's literary career.  Find here reprints of reviews from sources such as the NY Times Book Review, Horn Book, Junior Bookshelf, and Publishers Weekly.

Black Authors and Illustrators of Children's Books: A Biographical Dictionary (CCM Ref 920 R755b 1999; or 1992 ed.: CCM Prof 920 R755b)

This source contains biographical sketches and bibliographies of books written and/or illustrated by selected Black authors.  The appendix identifies the Coretta Scott King Award recipients as well as Black winners of Newbery and Caldecott honors.   

Authors and Illustrators of Children's Books: Writings on Their Lives and Works  (CCM Ref 741.64 H711a)

An older resource (1972) containing short biographical sketches and complied articles highlighting authors and author/illustrators of children's books.  Though the text and cited material is somewhat dated, a number of distinguished, well-known individuals are included (i.e. Beverly Cleary, Dr. Seuss, Ezra Jack Keats, Maurice Sendak, etc.). 


Eighth Book of Junior Authors and Illustrators: (latest ed.: CCM Ref 741.64 E34; or 6th ed.: Ref 741.64 S625)

Entries include autobiographical or biographical sketches of children's authors and illustrators, and a selected title list.  Also provided are a few reviews from such periodicals as Horn Book and Something About the Author
