Frequently Asked Questions: Reserve

Answers to common questions about the library and doing research.

What does it mean if a reading is on reserve? How do I access reserve materials?

Library reserve items are materials set aside by professors for students to use in their classes. Most course reserve materials are available for 2 hours at a time to ensure equal access to course materials. 2-hour loan items may not be taken out of the building. (Some materials are on 2-day or 7-day loan. 2-day and 7-day reserve loan materials may be taken out of the building.)

Search for course reserve materials using the Course Reserve search (available via Search@UW). Search by your instructor's name, department, or course number to view results of items on reserve for your classes. A search for specific known item titles also works.

Your instructor may also make items available electronically via your D2L course. Please note: Electronic reserve has been discontinued as of Summer 2014.
